New Student Orientation


Summer 2008 New Student Orientation


Once you have been offered admission to both the University of Arizona (UA) and SALT, you are ready to prepare for the transition of becoming a UA student using SALT services. To help with this transition, our department will conduct a New Student Orientation that will be held in conjunction with select UA orientation sessions.

You will be able to reserve your space in the SALT Center and register for a UA/SALT orientation session by selecting one of the dates listed on the UA orientation website when it is operational. If you have questions regarding UA orientation, please call (520) 621-5293.

Attendance at orientation is required for all new, incoming students to the UA and SALT.

On the UA orientation website you will be asked to submit a UA Enrollment Deposit prior to choosing a date for your orientation session. Be sure to select FINISH at the end of your online registration in order to electronically record your choice. You will be receiving additional information about UA and SALT orientations in future communications.

Orientation Dates


All UA/SALT orientation sessions are conducted during the month of June and involve three full days of important information and activities. Day 1 is exclusively a day for SALT orientation. Days 2 and 3 are for UA orientation.

The UA/SALT Orientation dates for Summer 2008 are:
June 1-3, June 4-6, June 12-14, June 18-20, and June 25-27


To avoid orientation date conflicts, check important end-of-the-year high school dates such as graduation, class trips, finals, and proms. Once you have registered for an orientation session, it is extremely difficult and/or impossible to change a session due to the limited number of spaces available in each session.

If it necessary for you to change your initial orientation session, the UA Orientation Office requires students to complete and submit an official Reservation Change Form. If the change can be made, the UA Orientation Office will charge a fee to make the change.

Deposit and Orientation Fees


The SALT Center orientation fees will be $50.00 for each new student and $50.00 for any additional family members.

As stated in your SALT admission letter, you will be billed through the UA Bursar’s Office for the $200.00 SALT deposit. The SALT Center Orientation fees will be on the same bill as the SALT deposit. Bills are sent out on a monthly basis and you should receive these charges within a month of registering for orientation. In July you will be billed for the remainder of SALT fees.

To avoid any complications, after receiving your bill, please submit the deposit and orientation fees as soon as possible to the Bursar's Office. Please contact Lee Gilbert at (520) 626-8304 or the Bursar's Office at (520) 621-3232 if you have any billing questions.

SALT Orientation Schedule


We have a full day planned for you and your parents, beginning with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Lunch will also be provided for all attendees.

During the day students will meet their Strategic Learning Specialist, be able to talk with current SALT students, and learn about the SALT Computer Resource Lab and SALT tutoring.

Parents will be participating in information sessions that are specific to their needs and concerns. The day concludes for everyone in the SALT Center courtyard at about 4:00 p.m.

New Student Enrollment Form


The New Student Enrollment Form will be sent to you once you have successfully registered for a UA/SALT orientation session. By signing and submitting the form, you are agreeing to participate in the SALT Center for a minimum of two (2) consecutive semesters, and you are indicating that you understand that there is a fee for SALT services. Please complete and return the form to SALT Admissions as soon as possible to retain your position in the program.

Withdrawing from SALT & UA


If you wish to withdraw from the SALT program after registering for an orientation session, please submit a WRITTEN request in the form of an email, fax or letter by May 1 and we will refund your deposit and orientation fees less a $50.00 processing fee.

Please note that Deposit and Orientation fees are non-refundable after May 1st.

YOU are responsible for informing the UA if you decide to attend another university. If the UA is not notified in writing that you are declining the admission offer, the Bursar’s Office will continue to bill. Unpaid bills could eventually result in financial complications.

Additional Information


SALT will send additional orientation information, which includes a confirmation of the selected orientation session in late spring.
